The Big Tap Challenge

The Big Tap Challenge is a project to encourage people to reduce the amount of water they waste.

It might seem to rain all the time in the UK but in fact the UK has less water available per person than most other European countries. Various pressures including climate change, changes in the population and changes in people's behaviour, mean that the UK is already pushing the limits of its available water supplies.

The Big Tap Challenge, fronted by famous athlete Kriss Akabusi, seeks to address these problems. The campaign was devised by Talisman Communications for Waterwise, an NGO supported by a number of UK water companies.

The website for the Big Tap Challenge was designed by local Hove designers Atomic Shed and implemented by Codeface in January 2011.

Visitors to the site are encouraged to sign up and commit to reduce their water wastage by making personal pledges (for instance, "I will fix a dripping tap in my home"). A competition with some great water-themed prizes gives users an extra little incentive to take part!

Using a bit of CSS magic and the fantastic jquery JavaScript library, we were able to bring the graphic designer's vision to life and give the forms a nice slick, distinctive look and feel. The back-end is implemented using PHP and a MySQL database.
